'Highlands Women Dancer'

‘The characteristic womens face painting should be bright and shining as well as the head-dress. Their skin should be gleaming and healthy as a sign of favour from their ancestors. Leaves, moss and grass are commonly used to suggest her recent emergence from the forest. In traditional beliefs, if the dancers decorations are bad (dull), that means a dancer will die in the near future.’
